Understanding the Carbohydrate

Low Carb Diets Different From Eliminating Carbs Altogether

A lot of people misunderstand the term "low carb diet", thinking that this type of diet consists in removing all carbs from meals, to lose some weight. Well, it is wrong. Beside the fact it is impossible to remove all carbs from your meals, your body can't "live" without them, especially when it comes about a long term low carb diet.

The incorrectly understanding happens because people do not inform before starting following a low carb diet. It is related that a general American diet consists in 300 g of carbs daily. For many people, without knowing too much about this kind of diet, 300 g of carbs daily represents too much for them. In my opinion, this is because some of them are having serious weight problems and they want to get rid of some pounds as soon as possible.

That's why you should take care before starting a low carb diet. Even some of us look the same, our body and metabolism are not the same. We have different lifestyles, different way to eat and different genetic inheritance. Moreover, we may eat the same amount of carbs but it may be assimilated in different manners.

For instance, you may be able to eat 300 g of complex carbs daily. These can be found in whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Still, your neighbour may consume the exact same amount of carbs, but simple ones, which are found in white bread, rice, pasta or candies.

Another thing you should know is that reducing the daily intake of complex carbs will have a bigger impact on your diet and will maintain you healthy. Though, if you moderate the daily amount of simple carbs, you will get less chances to lose weight. Furthermore, even if the amount of simple carbs which are also fast acting carbs is reduced to 100-130 grams, you may still gain weight. Do not hope to the expected result even if you reduce the amount to a very low level.

Even if two different people eat the same amount and type of food, the result cannot be guaranteed for both of them. It is about the exact same thing as before: people have different bodies, metabolism and so on.

Before doing something you may regret after, get informed about diets which are good for you. In order to help you, you should know that there are only a few low carb diets that work for most people. 2 of them require to reduce the daily carb amount to 30, or even 20 grams. I know that it does not sound good, which is why forwards you will find a mini-guide to help you cut down some carbs.

First of all, you should reduce the amount of simple carbs as more as you can. This means you should avoid pasta, white bread and sugar products. Keep eating this way for a week or two and if it does not return any result, you should try the next step. If you lose weight, though, maintain this daily eating style.

If you are not happy with the first advice, then cut down the daily carb amount to 150 g daily. Be careful to fill this amount with complex carbs, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, not with simple ones.

Cutting down the daily amount of carbs to 70-100 g should help you, if the previous step did not help, either. As I said before, make sure the consumed carbs are healthy (fruits, veggies, whole grains).

The last step is based on reducing the daily amount of carbs by 10 g per week, until you see that you are losing weight or start with those popular diets I mentioned before, but replace the amount of carbs they advise you to start to 20-30 grams.

You should closely follow this steps from the beginning to the end. However, keep in mind that not all carbs should be eliminated because there are also good carbs (the complex ones).
